The problem identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
Certain C175 Commercial Engines are showing heads with tight valve lash from intake valve recession. The problem typically occurs at hours greater than 5000 hours.Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem and recommends reducing valve lash intervals from 4000 hours to 2000 hours on engines experiencing this issue. The maximum amount of valve recession is limited to 2 mm (0.08 inch) of wear. The nominal head deck to valve stem tip measurement is 60.538 mm (2.383 inch). Any cylinder head with head deck to valve stem tip measurement that exceeds 62.538 mm (2.462 inch) should be replaced.Refer to Reuse And Salvage Guidelines, SEBF9193 and Reuse And Salvage Guidelines, SEBF8162 for additional information on measurement specifics.Contact the C175 Dealer Solutions Network (DSN) Tier 2 to report anything related to this issue.
