The bearings used in rear roller frame assemblies for the pivot shafts may cause excessive micro-hardness and need to be replaced on certain D6R, D6R XL, D6R XR, and D6R LGP Tractors. The 7P8370 Bearings may have excessive micro-hardness.This has resulted in high wear of the pivot shafts at low hours. The first indication is often leakage of the 5G9842 Pivot Shaft Seal.

Attach.(1-Rework Procedure)Rework Procedure
1. Remove bulldozer blade from tractor.2. Remove roller frame or frames if both have failures. This can be accomplished by following the 'Disassembly And Assembly' procedures in SENR8357 Service Guide.3. After removal of frames, remove the 7J1333 and 8P8370 Bearings from the roller frame. This can be accomplished by using a medium sized hammer and a long blunt end punch. Place punch on outside diameter in several areas around bearing and drive bearing outward away from bearing shoulder machined in roller frame. Caution should be taken, as the bearing material has a tendency to chip.
4. After removal, replace the bearings using information in 'Disassembly And Assembly Guide' (Page 43) when installing the 7P8370 Bearing (Item 15 in the guide). Be sure that the bearing is not driven beyond the face of the bearing diameter face (See Illustration 1, Items 16 and 17). If bearing surface of pivot shaft is damaged due to bearing damage, remove pivot shaft and replace with proper shaft assembly. Make sure that torque requirements are being closely followed upon reassembly.5. Reassemble frames to tractor following the instructions given in SENR8357.6. Reassemble the track to the tractor. Reassemble the blade. This is a 9-hour job per tractor side. If both sides must be replaced follow the same procedure for both sides.
