Location of "Fuel System Functional Test" in the CAT ET Menu
The primary tool used to diagnose these event codes is the "Fuel System Functional Test" (1), located in the "Diagnostic Tests Menu" within Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) Service Tool. Refer to Illustration 1.Note: The "Fuel System Verification Test" in Cat ET is not used to diagnose E499, E398 and E1229 event codes.

Location to uncheck "Fuel System Functional Test-Pretest" if the E398 Low Fuel Rail Pressure event code is active
If the E398 Low Fuel Rail Pressure event code is active when attempting to perform the "Fuel System Functional Test", bypass the "Fuel System Functional Test-Pretest" by unchecking the box at the beginning of the test.Following these steps should provide a more accurate diagnosis of the high-pressure fuel system that includes the 375-5244 Fuel Injection Pump Gp, the 379-0150 Fuel Injection Pump Gp, the 362-0770 Relief Valve As and the 415-4991 Relief Valve As.
