When submitting claim for Parts Stock Action, Use the appropriate 99Z as the s/n, the appropriate Service Letter Program Number as the Part number in the Part Causing Failure field, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Description Code.
The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program.Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

PROBLEM
The 261-4881 and 10R-4421 Air Compressors may have been manufactured with the shaft splines not machined deep enough.
ACTION REQUIRED
Remove all 261-4881 and 10R-4421 Air Compressors from dealer parts stock that have a serial number that contains a date earlier than 1/27/15, if the spline depth measures less than 37.4 mm. Image 1 shows how to measure the depth of the spines.
Image 2 is a picture of a compressor seial number, and shows how the date is included within the serial number. The box within the picture contains the date portion of the serial number. The letter equals the month ( A = Jan, B = Feb, etc..), the next two numbers equal the day of the month, the last two numbers equal the year. The compressor in the picture was manufactured on March 23, 2012.

PARTS DISPOSITION
NACD:
Hold all 261-4881 and 10R-4421 Air Compressors removed from dealer parts stock for a Parts Return Request (PRR). A Parts Return Request (PRR) will be issued to you through the Send-It-Back process after the claim is submitted. Make sure to list the service letter program number on the packing slip and include the closed work order paperwork.
EAME, LACD, and APD:
Hold all 261-4881 and 10R-4421 Air Compressors removed from dealer parts stock for 30 days for a possible Parts Return Request (PRR). Make sure to list the service letter program number on the packing slip and include the closed work order paperwork.
When necessary, dealers should contact Beyer_Brian_N at Caterpillar Product Support for a SIB Parts Return Request (PRR).
If a Parts Return Request (PRR) is not issued to you after 30 days through the Send-It-Back process, handle the parts in accordance with your warranty bulletin on warranty parts handling.
