561C, 561D PipelayersDescription of Change: An increased press force is now used for installation of the steering clutch flange on the input pinion of the final drive for the above models. The flange is now installed with a force of 30 to 35 tons (60000 to 70000 lbs - 265 to 310 kN). The force formerly used was 20 to 25 tons (40000 to 50000 lbs - 180 to 225 kN). The increased force is necessary to make sure the flange is installed on the pinion shaft to the correct dimension. After the flange is installed, the dimension from the shoulder on the shaft to the surface around the bore in the flange must be measured. This dimension must be 3.18 0.76 mm (.125 .030") to hold the Duo-Cone seal correctly in position. If the flange-to-pinion dimension is not correct, the Duo-Cone seal will not have the correct face contact pressure, and oil leakage is possible.
Adaptable To: All earlier D6C and D6D Tractors, and 561C and 561D Pipelayers. Make a note of this change in the Service Manuals for the above machines until the time of the next revision.
