Information:
Caterpillar ProductsPetroleum fluids; especially the lighter distillates in the solvent, kerosene and diesel fuel ranges; can cause skin irritation. This is true of the 6V6067 and 6V6068 Test Fluid used in Caterpillar injection nozzle testing equipment. Irritation occurs when the skin is continually being flushed without taking precautions to replenish skin oils that are being washed away. This condition is even more aggravated during times of intense heat or cold, or if the skin is subjected to abrasion by metal particles.
Allergy to oil and the resulting skin irritation can also develop with people at any time during their life, regardless of how long they have previously worked with petroleum fluids.
We highly recommend that operators, directly in contact with calibration fluid, follow the listed procedure to minimize skin problems.
1. Wash hands with soap and water and apply a protective cream (cream is insoluble in petroleum products). Follow the instructions of the manufacturer for application.2. At meal time or for extended breaks, the protective cream should be removed with soap and water.3. Apply a lanolin hand cream or a medicated cream.4. Prior to returning to work, the protective cream should again be applied. Steps 2 and 3 should be repeated at the end of the work day.5. A protective apron should be worn if a great deal of over spray or splashing of calibration fluid is encountered, to avoid soaking the operator's clothing.6. Protective gloves may also have to be worn by operators whose skin is particularly sensitive to petroleum fluids. The following is a list of suggested products (usually available from local industrial medical supply firms.)
