Left Armrest
(1) Steering wheelSteering wheel (1) is on the left armrest of the operator station.Steering wheel (1) is the primary means of controlling the turning angle of the machine. The movement of the steering wheel is monitored by the steering encoder (not shown), located under the steering wheel. The machine ECM sends a signal to the steering encoder to control the steering wheel friction device. The steering encoder monitors the movement of the steering wheel and sends this information to the machine ECM. The steering encoder uses two independent encoders that can detect steering wheel movement. The direction of steering wheel rotation is determined by comparing the phases of the encoder signals.A steering wheel friction device (not shown) is located under the steering wheel. This device applies a variable force to the steering wheel that causes the wheel to resist turning. The friction device is activated when the steering system is enabled. When the machine has reached the mechanical steering limit, the highest friction level is applied to lock the steering wheel. The friction level is proportional to the difference between the desired steering angle and the actual steering angle. The desired steering angle is determined by the steering encoder. The actual steering angle is determined by the steering angle position sensor. The friction level prevents the operator from turning the steering wheel faster than the machine can respond. The friction device is controlled by the machine ECM.

Operator Seat
(2) Seat position switch "1"
(3) Seat position switch "2"The optional 360 seat position switches are at the base of the operator seat. A removable panel provides access to these components. The machine ECM monitors the state of seat position switch"1" (2) and seat position switch "2" (3) to determine the position of the operator seat. When seat position switch "1" (2) is closed and seat position switch "2" (3) is open, the machine ECM determines that the operator seat is facing forward. When seat position switch "1" is open and seat position switch "2" is closed, the machine ECM determines that the operator seat is facing rearward. When both seat position switches are closed, the machine ECM determines that the operator seat is in a transitional position. When this action happens, the propel and vibratory systems are temporarily disabled until one of the seat position switches is open. When both seat position switches are open, the machine ECM logs a level 3 fault and disables the propel, steering, and vibratory systems.

Articulation Area
(4) Steering angle position sensorSteering angle position sensor (4) is at the front end of the articulation area, on top of the steering pivot point.Steering angle position sensor (4) monitors the angle of articulation of the machine frame and sends this information to the machine ECM. The machine ECM uses this information to determine the turning radius of the machine.
