Change Filter Element
1. Remove the oil filler cap to relieve the tank pressure.2. Loosen the retainer. Remove the cover and the filter element. Properly discard the filter element.3. Inspect the condition of the O-ring seal in the cover. Replace the seal if it is worn or damaged.4. Install a new filter element. Clean and install the filter cover. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 80 7 N m (60 5 lb ft).5. Remove the oil filler strainer. Clean the filler strainer and the oil filler cap in a clean nonflammable solvent. Install the strainer and cap.6. Start and run the engine at LOW IDLE for a few minutes.7. Stop the engine. 8. Maintain oil level to the FULL mark in sight gauge.Fuel System
Service Fuel System
Do not fill fuel filters with fuel before installing them. Contaminated fuel causes accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
Wash Primary Filter Element
The primary element is located on the right side of the engine, below the priming pump. 1. Loosen filter housing retaining nut (1).2. Remove housing (2) and element.3. Remove the element from the case.4. Wash the element and housing in clean, nonflammable solvent.5. Dry the element using pressure air - 205 kPa (30 psi) maximum.6. Clean the filter case base.7. Inspect the seal. Replace it if it is damaged.8. Insert the clean element.9. Install the element and case into housing.10. Retighten the retaining nut to a torque of 24 4 N m (18 3 lb ft).Change Secondary Fuel Filter
1. Remove and discard the filter.2. Clean the filter element mounting base. Be sure all of the old seal is removed.3. Coat the seal of the new filter with clean diesel fuel.4. Install the new filter element by hand. When the seal contacts the base, tighten 3/4 turn more.There are rotation-index marks 90 degrees apart on the filter. Use them as a guide for proper tightening.5. Prime the fuel system. (See next topic.)Priming the Fuel System
1. Unlock and pull out the priming pump plunger.2. Operate the pump to fill the new filter elements with fuel. Continue pumping until resistance is felt, indicating the elements are full of fuel.3. Push the priming pump plunger down and lock it.4. Start the engine and look for leaks around the filter elements.Fuel Tank
Clean Cap and Fill Strainer
1. Open fuel tank drain valve access cover (1).2. Open fuel tank drain valve (2). Allow the sediment and water to drain into a suitable container.3. Close the drain valve and the access cover. 4. Remove
