Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
The transmission oil filter assembly is located underneath the cab platform on the left-hand side of the machine.
Stop the engine and remove the key.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Note: While not a requirement, transmission oil may be drained from the transmission filter housing prior to replacing the transmission filter element.
If desired, use the following procedure to drain the transmission oil from the transmission oil filter housing. Proceed to step 4 if the transmission oil will not be drained from the transmission oil filter housing.

(1) Cover plate
Remove cover plate (1) that is located above the front portion of the left-hand rear tire of the machine.

The side plate that conceals the transmission oil filter assembly is removed from this illustration to aid in the visibility of the transmission oil filter housing drain plug. The side plate cannot be removed from the machine as shown.
(2) Transmission oil filter housing drain plug
Place a suitable container beneath transmission oil filter housing drain plug (2).
Remove the transmission oil filter housing drain plug and allow the transmission oil to drain from the transmission oil filter housing into the suitable container.
Install the transmission oil filter housing drain plug, and dispose of the used transmission oil properly.
Install the cover plate that was removed in step 3.a above.

Open the access door in the left-hand cab platform that is to the rear of the operator cab door. Service the transmission oil filter from this location.

Remove four bolts (3) in order to remove the housing cover assembly.
Lift on housing cover handle (4) in order to access the filter assembly components. Housing cover (5), bypass valve body (6), and center tube (7) will lift out of filter housing (9) together. Be certain that seals (10 and 11) are also removed from the filter housing with the housing cover assembly. Used oil filter element (8) will likely remain inside the filter housing. Note: A significant amount of transmission oil will remain inside the transmission oil filter housing if the oil was not drained from the filter housing previously. Removal of this oil from the housing in order to replace the transmission oil filter element is not necessary.
Remove the seals from the housing cover and the bypass valve
