Personal injury or death and/or damage to the switchgear and the components of the switchgear may occur if the internal components of the switchgear are not assembled correctly. Components that are improperly located within the switchgear could cause damage to the switchgear. Verify the integrity of the internal components of the switchgear. Ensure that a safety check is performed before the switchgear is energized. Bodily contact with electrical potential will cause personal injury or death.
High voltage may be present. The power source must be disconnected before working on the equipment. Failure to disconnect the power source could result in injury or death. Verify that the equipment is not energized before performing any maintenance. This work must be performed by trained personnel with correct tools and procedures. Bodily contact with electrical potential will cause personal injury or death.
Short circuits can cause severe personal injury and damage to equipment. Short circuits may be the result of damage to the equipment or improper installation procedures. Examine the equipment to detect problems while the switchgear is de-energized. Bodily contact with electrical potential will cause personal injury or death.
Failure to connect the unit to a suitable grounding electrode will result in electrical shock and will cause injury or death.
Settings on the following items are the customer's responsibility:
Generator circuit breaker
Protective relays
Touchscreen display
Ensure that the proper protective relay settings for the application are set. Factory default settings are typical settings. Settings may require adjustment.
Ensure that all sheet metal panels are in place. Ensure that the doors on all cabinets of the switchgear are closed.
Verify that all switchgear loads are disconnected and / or de-energized. This includes the panel for the distribution of the AC shore power. Verify that all AC circuit breakers in the panel and all AC circuit breakers in the switchgear are open. Ensure that all of the DC circuit breakers are open.
Ensure that the generator circuit breaker is open. Ensure that the control switch for the circuit breaker is in the trip lock out position.
Verify that the cover for the motor controls is closed. In the low voltage switchgear, the cover for the motor controls is located on the side of the left section of the switchgear.
Verify that the correct AC control voltage is present. Methodically close the desired AC circuit breakers. Verify each operation when the breaker is closed.
Begin to energize the switchgear with the DC control voltage. Ensure that the correct voltage for control is available. Methodically close the DC circuit breakers. Verify each operation when the breaker is closed. When all of the DC circuit breakers are closed the DC circuit breakers should remain closed except for an electrical fault or for maintenance of the switchgear.Grounding the Frame
In any generator set installation, the frame of the generator must be positively connected to an earth ground. This connection is the first connection that is made at the installation. This connection is the last connection that should be removed. The ground connection must be flexible in order to avoid possible breakage
