Removal Procedure
Start By:
Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
Connect the frame lock link. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Frame Lock Link - Separate and Connect".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Note: Install caps and plugs on all openings in order to prevent dirt or debris from entering the system. Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: For easier assembly, mark all hose assemblies, tube assemblies, wire harnesses and cables for identification purposes.

Remove four truss head screws (2) and the spacers.
Remove guard assembly (1) .

Remove 13 truss head screws (6) .
Remove ball knob (3) .
Remove housing (4) and housing (5) .

Disconnect hose assembly (7), hose assembly (8), hose assembly (9), and hose assembly (10) .
Disconnect two wiring harnesses (11) at the electrical connections.

Remove three bolts (12), the hard washers, and the spacer in order to remove STIC control and pilot valve (13). Remove the STIC control and pilot valve.
