Removal Procedure
Personal injury can result from failure to disconnect the battery.First, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then, disconnect the positive battery cable.A positive power lead can cause sparks if the battery is not disconnected. Sparks can possibly result in battery explosion or fire.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Place an index mark on all of the harness assemblies that are connected to alternator (2) . Disconnect the harness assemblies from alternator (2) .
Remove belt (5) .
Disconnect hose assemblies (1) .
Remove bolts (3) and bracket (4) .

Disconnect tube assembly (9) .
Remove bolts (7) and bolts (8) .
Remove alternator (2) .
Remove nut (6) and the pulley, if necessary.Installation Procedure

Position alternator (2) on the engine. Install bolts (7) and bolts (8) . Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 95 7 N m (70 5 lb ft). Tighten bolts (8) to a torque of 82 7 N m (60 5 lb ft).
Connect tube assembly (9) .
Install the pulley and nut (6) . Tighten nut (6) to a torque of 292 7 N m (215 5 lb ft).
