Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Drain the oil from the engine into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. The capacity of the engine oil with filter is 18 L (4.8 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" for approximate refill capacities. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the correct procedure for draining the engine oil.
Remove the engine oil level gauge. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Level Gauge (Dipstick) - Remove and Install" for the correct removal procedure.

Disconnect harness assembly (2) .
Remove bolts (3) .
Remove oil pan (1) .Installation Procedure
Make sure that all mating surfaces of the oil pan and the engine block are thoroughly clean. Use a new gasket for the installation.

Position the new gasket and oil pan (1) on the engine block.
Install bolts (3) .
Connect harness assembly (2) .
Install the engine oil level gauge. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Level Gauge (Dipstick) - Remove and Install" for the correct installation procedure.
Fill the engine with oil to the correct level. The capacity of the engine oil with filter is 18 L (4.8 US gal). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" for approximate refill capacities. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the correct filling procedure.
