Remove the recoil spring assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Recoil Spring - Remove".
Personal injury or death can result from recoil spring force. Recoil spring force, if not relieved, can result in personal injury or death.Relieve spring force before removing threaded retainer, performing repairs on recoil spring housing, or removing recoil spring.

Assemble Tooling (A) onto the recoil spring assembly, as shown. Attach Tooling (B) to Tooling (A) . A suitable press can be used in place of Tooling (B) . Use Tooling (B) to apply pressure onto plug (2) in order to compress the spring.
Remove bolts (1) and the washers.

Release the pressure on Tooling (B) , or a suitable press, in order to release the tension on spring (3) . Spring (3) should move freely at this time. Remove Tooling (B) .

Remove nuts (4) . Remove plate (5) .

Remove flange (6) . Remove plug (2) .
Use two people to remove spring (3) . The weight of spring (3) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb).

Remove rods (7) and remove sleeves (8) .
Use two people to remove tube assembly (9) from plate (10) . The weight of tube assembly (9) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb).
