Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove bracket (1).

Install Tooling (A) onto the transmission housing.

Use Tooling (B), Tooling (C), and a suitable lifting device in order to install transmission and torque converter (2) onto Tooling (D). The weight of transmission and torque converter (2) is approximately 544 kg (1200 lb). The weight of transmission and torque converter (2) with a retarder is approximately 590 kg (1300 lb). Note: Three 1/2-20 bolts and one 3/8-24 bolt are required to mount the transmission to Tooling (D).
Use Tooling (D) in order to position the transmission vertically.

Remove plug (3) and the O-ring seal. Remove bolt (4).

Attach Tooling (E) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter (5). The weight of torque converter (5) is approximately 125 kg (275 lb). Remove torque converter (5).
