(AA) Suction Line
(BB) Discharge Line Both pumps (8) circulate the sump oil that is in each axle housing. The oil flows through passages in both the front and the rear axle housings. The oil from the front axle is pumped through screen (6) before the oil reaches cooler (4). Once the oil has passed cooler (4), the oil returns to the front axle. Inside the front axle, the oil cools the axle housing and the brakes. Oil from the rear axle flows past screen (5) and past cooler (4) before the oil returns to the rear axle. Inside the rear axle, the oil cools the axle housing and the brakes. When the temperature sensors in the axles reach 70 °C (158 °F), a signal is sent to Caterpillar Monitoring System (A). The signal will travel to CAT Data Link (B). The signal will continue to implement ECM (C). The implement ECM will then turn off solenoid valve (2) and the oil will be forced to operate fan motor (1) in order to cool the axle oil. When the temperature sensors in the axles cool to 60 °C (140 °F), a signal of 0.75 amp will be sent to solenoid valve (2). This will energize solenoid valve (2) and the oil will bypass fan motor (1). Two bypass relief valves are located in pump (8). Another bypass relief valve is located in fan motor (1). The bypass relief valve limits the amount of oil pressure in the cooling system. The bypass relief valves in pump (8) are rated at 1034 kPa (150 psi). The bypass relief valve in fan motor (1) is rated at 6900 kPa (1000 psi).Note: If one of the pumps becomes worn or damaged, replace the pump.
