Travel speed and direction are determined by the position of the speed/direction control lever. The lever moves in an upside-down "Y" pattern. Movement of the lever to the right is FORWARD and movement of the lever to the left is REVERSE. Zero speed (NEUTRAL) is achieved when the lever is in the center part of the "Y" pattern. The parking brake is applied when the lever is in the tip of the upside-down "Y" pattern. This is nearest to the NEUTRAL position.Position sensor (5) for the speed/direction control lever converts the position of the lever into an electrical signal that is sent to the power train ECM. Power train ECM (11) sends current to the steering solenoid valves that corresponds to the speed that is selected by the operator and to the direction that is selected by the operator. The solenoid valves open proportionally to the electrical current that is sent in order to direct the pressurized signal oil to the drive pumps and the drive motors. When the speed mode switch is placed in the Work Mode position, speed is reduced to 70 percent of the normal speed.
