There should be enough fuel in the system in order to start the engine. If you operate the engine and the engine stops, continue to operate the engine for 30 seconds. After the engine cranks for 30 seconds, allow the starter to cool for 2 minutes. Repeat the cycle until the engine starts and runs. If it is still difficult to start the engine, you must prime the fuel system.
Operate the fuel lift pump for 2 minutes. Operate the fuel lift pump until resistance is felt.
Turn the engine start switch key to START in order to crank the engine. If the engine does not start, you must prime the system again. If the engine misfires, you must prime the system again. If the engine smokes, you must prime the system again.
If the engine will not start, loosen the fuel line nuts at two of the nozzles. This will help purge the fuel lines of air before air can enter the fuel injector nozzles.
Crank the engine until the fuel flows free of air. Tighten each fuel line nut. Tighten the union nuts to 18 4.5 N m (13.3 3.3 lb ft). If the engine starts, continue to run the engine until fuel flows free of air in the fuel lines.
