( 1 ) The hose assembly is not needed for harvester heads that are equipped with Caterpillar pressure taps.
Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Prepare the machine for testing and adjusting.Reference: Testing and Adjusting, "Preparation for Troubleshooting"
Ensure that the hydraulic oil in the system is at normal operating temperature. To warm the hydraulic oil, operate the feed rollers for several minutes.

Place the harvester head in the HORIZONTAL position.
Shut off the engine.
Open the cover on the harvester head.

Pressure Tap (PL) on the Main Valve
If necessary, attach the adapter to the pressure tap (PL) that is located on right side of the main valve. Attach the 198-4240 Digital Pressure Indicator to the pressure tap or the adapter. Set the pressure indicator to the "PSI" setting. Note: The pressure tap is clearly marked on the inlet section of the main valve.
Start the engine. Press the operating mode switch in order to activate the working mode (wheel harvesters). Turn the engine speed dial until the engine is operating at 1300 rpm. Make sure that the switch for the controller is in the ON position.
Raise the harvester head approximately 0.9 m (3 ft) above the ground.
Press the button for delimbing knives close on the hand controls. Read the pressure on the pressure indicator. The pressure should be 16000 200 kPa (2320 30 psi).
If the pressure for the delimbing knives is correct go to step 14. If the pressure is not correct proceed to step 11.

Loosen locknut (2) on the pressure reducing valve for the delimbing knives close. Turn adjustment screw (1) clockwise in order to increase the pressure. Turn adjustment screw (1) counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure.
Press the button for delimbing knives close on the hand controls. Adjust the pressure until the pressure indicator reads 16000 200 kPa (2320 30 psi).
Tighten locknut (2) on adjustment screw (1) of the pressure reducing valve.
Lower the harvester head to the ground.
Shut off the engine.
