Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Illustration 1 g03784910To release a small amount of water and sediment, perform the following:
Prepare the machine for maintenance. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance".
Loosen the screw of the small fuel tank drain valve (1) until water starts draining. Allow the moisture and the sediment to drain into a suitable container.
Apply anti-seize lubricant to screw before tightening. Note: The anti-seize lubricant is a 50% graphite to 50% petroleum product. Contact your Cat dealer for more information.
Close the drain valve when water stops draining and fuel starts to drain into the container. To remove heavy sediment buildup from the tank, perform the following:
Prepare the machine for maintenance. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance".
Loosen the plug of the small fuel tank drain valve (2). Allow the moisture and the sediment to drain into a suitable container. Note: Removing the plug will drain the tank. Evacuating a majority of the fuel is recommended prior to removing this plug.
Apply anti-seize lubricant to plug before reinstalling. Note: The anti-seize lubricant is a 50% graphite to 50% petroleum product. Contact your Cat dealer for more information.
Close the drain valve.
