( 1 ) For the 797, the 6V-9846 Swivel Tee requires an 8T-5082 Union and two 5P-9757 O-Ring Seals. The part numbers for the hose assemblies are only for reference. Refer to the Hydraulic Information System (HIS) in order to manufacture the hose assemblies that are referenced.Removal of Parts
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Turn off the engine and disconnect the battery. Ensure that the engine will not crank. Drain the fuel return lines. Refer to Illustration 1 for the following steps.

Remove hose assembly (4) from elbow (2) and from connector (8) .
Remove elbow (2) and O-Ring seal (3) from the cylinder head. Plug the hole and use a new O-Ring Seal. Refer to Table 1 for the plug and for the seal.
Remove bolt (5), washer (6), and clip (7) .
Remove the fuel return line from the chassis. In all cases, the fuel return line is the hose that is not connected to the primary fuel filter.Installation of Parts
Refer to Illustration 2 for the following steps. Install the new fuel return lines in the same locations as the former fuel return lines. Install new hose assembly (6) between tee (3) and the fuel tank. Install new hose assembly (5) between tee (3) and the engine. Use the existing hardware to fasten the fuel return lines to the chassis. Table 2 lists the part numbers for these hose assemblies for all of the machines that are listed above.
Connect the fuel lines together by using the tees and the seals that are listed in Table 2.
