Information:
2. Remove plug (1) from the steering clutch case.
Remove all bolts (2) and (3) except for one on each side of the steering clutch. It is necessary to turn the sprocket or track to remove the bolts.
3. Remove bolts (2) that hold the steering clutch to the steering clutch hub. Remove bolts (3) through the opening in the steering clutch case where the plug was removed. 4. Install two 3/8"-16 NC bolts 4 in. long in the brake bands as shown. Fasten a hoist to the brake bands and remove the last two bolts that hold the steering clutch in position. Remove steering clutch (4) from the machine. The weight of the steering clutch is 250 lb. (113 kg).Install Steering Clutches
1. Fasten a hoist to the brake bands as shown.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE2. Put the steering clutch (1) in position between the steering clutch hub and the flange. Install two bolts to hold the clutch in position. Remove the hoist.3. Put 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of all the bolts. Install the bolts that hold the steering clutch in position. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 200 20 lb. ft. (270 25 N m). Install the plug in the steering clutch case.4. After the brake hydraulic control and actuating mechanism is installed, fill the bevel gear case and steering clutch case with oil to the correct level. See Lubrication and Maintenance Guide.end by:a) install brake hydraulic controls and actuating mechanismsDisassemble Steering Clutches
start by:a) remove steering clutches 1. Remove brake bands (1) from the drum. 2. Install two 5/8"-11 NC forged eyebolts in the drum. Fasten a hoist to the drum. Weight of the drum is 50 lb. (23 kg). Remove drum (2). 3. Put tool (B) on tool (A). Fasten a hoist to the steering clutch. Weight of the steering clutch is 200 lb. (90 kg). Put the steering clutch on tool (A). Install tooling (C) and the nut. Put pressure on the steering clutch with tool (A). Remove bolts (3) and locks (4).
To avoid personal injury, release the pressure on the steering clutch slowly. The plate is under spring tension.
4. Remove tool (C) and the nut. 5. Remove plate (5). 6. Remove the eight disc assemblies (6) and eight discs (7). Put identification on the discs and the disc assemblies during removal. This will prevent wear on the discs and the disc assemblies and prevent a mix at assembly.7. Remove drum (8) from the steering clutch. 8. Remove eight springs (9).9. Remove inner springs (10).10. Remove eight sleeves (11) from the retainer.Assemble Steering Clutches
1. Put tool (B) on tool (A). Put retainer (2) in position on the steering clutch stand.
Check all of the springs of the steering clutch for the correct spring tension. See the SPECIFICATIONS for the correct spring tension.
2. Put the eight sleeves in the retainer. Put the six inner springs in position on the sleeves. Install the outer springs over the inner springs. Two locations with no inner springs must be diametrically
