Compartment at Front of Operator Platform
(1) Fuse and relay bank
(2) Back-up alarm relayBack-up alarm relay (2) is located in fuse and relay bank (1). This module is on the right side of the machine, under the operator platform. An access panel provides access to these components. The fuse and relay bank has a removable cover (shown removed). A decal on the cover identifies the components in the fuse and relay bank.The machine ECM controls back-up alarm relay (2). When the electronic control system determines that the desired travel direction is reverse, the machine ECM energizes the coil of the back-up alarm relay. In this case, the back-up alarm sounds.

Rear of Machine
(3) Back-up alarmBack-up alarm (3) is at the rear of the machine, on the right side of the screed heat panel. The alarm is housed within a protective cover.The back-up alarm relay controls back-up alarm (3). When the relay is energized, the back-up alarm sounds.

Inside Steering Column
(4) Propulsion override resistor"1"
(5) Propulsion override resistor"2"Propulsion override resistor "1" (4) and propulsion override resistor "2" (5) are located inside the steering column. A cover plate must be removed to access these components.Propulsion override resistors (4) and (5) limit the speed at which the machine will operate when the propulsion override switches are used.

At Base of Steering Wheel
(6) Steering sensorMachines equipped with the standard steering system have steering sensor (6) at the base of the steering wheel. A cover on the front of the operator console provides access to this component.Steering sensor (6) provides an input signal to the transmission ECM. The transmission ECM uses the pulse-width modulated signal from the sensor to determine the desired turning radius.

At Base of Steering Wheel
(7) Friction steering unitMachines equipped with friction steering have friction steering unit (7) at the base of the steering wheel. A cover on the operator console provides access to this component.Friction steering unit (7) contains a solenoid and a sensor. The solenoid in the unit creates a magnetic field that is applied to damping fluid located inside the unit. The damping fluid provides resistance to rotation of the steering wheel. The transmission ECM controls the output signal to the solenoid based on the friction steering level set on the operator display. The greater the output signal, the greater the resistance to rotation.The sensor in friction steering unit (7) provides an input signal to the transmission ECM. The transmission ECM uses input from this pulse-width modulated sensor to determine the desired turning radius.
