Information:
Which Generate This Code:This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the system voltage as being below 18.0 DCV.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
Degraded or weak batteries
A charging system component has failed.
The machine harness has failed.
The ECM has failed. This condition is unlikely. Test Step 1. Check the Battery Charge
Measure the no-load battery voltage at the battery posts.
Load-test the batteries. Use the 4C-4911 Battery Load Tester. Refer to Special Instruction, SEHS9249, "Use of 4C-4911 Battery Load Tester for 6, 8 V and 12 V Lead Acid Batteries" and Special Instruction, SEHS7633, "Battery Test Procedure".Expected Result:The measured voltage is between 11.0 VDC and 13.5 VDC for a 12 v system. The measured voltage is between 22.0 VDC and 27.0 VDC for a 24 v system. Results:
OK - The batteries pass the load test. The measured voltage is between 11.0 VDC and 13.5 VDC for a 12 v system. The measured voltage is between 22.0 VDC and 27.0 VDC for a 24 v system. Proceed to test step 3.
Not OK - The battery voltage is low or the battery did not pass the load test.Repair: Check the wiring between the batteries and the ECM.Check the connectors between the batteries and the ECM for moisture and/or corrosion.Repair the wiring and/or the connectors.Recharge batteries. Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.Recharge or replace the faulty batteries. Verify that the repair eliminates the problem. Proceed to test step 2.Test Step 2. Check the Battery Charge
Measure the no-load battery voltage at the battery posts.Expected Result:The batteries pass the load test. Results:
OK - The batteries pass the load test.Repair: Resume normal operation.STOP
Not OK - The battery did not pass the load test.Repair: Replace the faulty batteries. Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE BATTERY VOLTAGE.
Start the engine and run the engine at high idle for several minutes.
Measure the voltage of the battery at the battery posts.Expected Result:The battery voltage should be greater than 18.0 DCV.Results:
OK - The battery voltage is greater than 18.0 DCV. The battery voltage is correct. Proceed to test step 4.
NOT OK - The battery voltage is NOT greater than 18.0 DCV.Repair: Check the charging system.STOPTest Step 4. CHECK THE SYSTEM VOLTAGE AT THE ECM.
The engine remains running at high idle.
DO NOT DISCONNECT the machine harness from the ECM.
Use the digital multimeter to measure the voltage between all of the possible sources of power and all of the possible sources of ground.Expected Result:The voltage measurement is greater than 18.0 DCV.Results:
OK - The voltage is greater than 18.0 DCV. The battery voltage is correct. Proceed to test step 5.
NOT OK - The voltage is NOT correct. The machine harness has failed.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 5. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS.
Inspect the harness connectors. Clean the contacts of the harness connectors and check the wires for damage to the insulation that is caused by excessive heat, battery acid, or chafing.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of
