Start By:
Install truck body retaining cable. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Truck Body Retaining Cable - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all hose assemblies, harness assemblies, and tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug and cap all hose assemblies and tube assemblies. This will help prevent fluid loss and this will help keep contaminants from entering the system.
Install suitable wheel chocks.

Insert Tooling (A) to cover assembly (1). Attach Tooling (A) to a suitable lifting device.
Remove bolts (2) from the clips.
Position harness assemblies (3) and (4) out of the way.

Disconnect hose assemblies (5) and (6).

Remove bolts (7).
Remove cover assembly (1) from the frame assembly. The weight of cover assembly (1) is approximately 35 kg (77 lb).

Use a suitable lifting device to support the weight of drive shaft (8).
Remove bolts (9). Discard bolts (9).
Use a suitable pry bar to compress drive shaft (8).

Remove drive shaft (8). The weight of drive shaft (8) is approximately 157 kg (347 lb). Installation Procedure

Use a suitable lifting to position drive shaft (8). The weight of drive shaft (8) is approximately 157 kg (347 lb).
Install drive shaft (8).

Align drive shaft (8) with slot (11).
Repeat Step 3 for opposite side of drive shaft (8).
Illustration 8 g00590025Note: Use only new bolts. Do not use bolts which have been previously assembled.
Use new bolts (9) in order to install drive shaft (8). Tighten the M22 bolts (9) to 775 40 N m (572 30 lb ft). Tighten the M24 bolts (9) to 1000 125 N m (737 92 lb ft).
Repeat Step 5 for opposite side of drive shaft (8).

Install Tooling (A) to cover assembly (1). Attach Tooling (A) to a suitable lifting device.
Install cover assembly (1) with bolts (7). The weight of cover assembly (1) is approximately 35 kg (77 lb).

Install a bolt (2) (not shown) to each clip. Secure harness assemblies (3) and (4) to cover assembly (1).
Connect hose assemblies (5) and (6). End By:
Remove truck body retaining cable. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Truck Body Retaining Cable - Remove and Install".
