TrucksShipment of the body for 777 Trucks is made in three modules: Two main body sections and the body canopy. These sections must be assembled and welded together in the field. Information to do this is given in a Special Instruction "Assembly and Welding Procedure For The 777 Truck Body (3 Piece Modular)", Form SMHS7406-01.
During the assembly and welding procedure for the two main body sections, it is necessary to keep a 6.35 mm (.25") gap between the edges of the sections for a good weld. To make this easier, six spacers have been added to one body section. The spacers are 101.6 mm (4.0") long, 25.4 mm (1.0") wide and 6.35 mm (.25") thick, and are tack-welded at intervals along the complete length of the edge which fits against the other body section. When the two sections are assembled together, the spacers will keep the correct gap between the edges until they are welded, but the spacers must be removed before the welds are finished. Do not weld the spacers in place.
Since this change was not in effect when the Special Instruction was written, it does not give information about these spacers. Until the next revision, make a note in your copy of Form SMHS7406-01 to see this article.
