Remove the valve mechanism cover. Rotate the crankshaft in the normal direction of the engine rotation until the inlet valve of the rear cylinder has opened and the exhaust valve of the rear cylinder has not closed.
The 62 kW and 69kW engines are installed with a Water Cold Start Device (CSD). In order to ensure that the fuel injection pump timing is correct, follow the procedure below. See 2.a and 2.b.
Install a 10 mm shim (H) between the Lever shaft (A) and the piston (B) on the CSD (C) .
Time the fuel injection pump to 6° BTC for a 62 kW engine. Time the fuel injection pump to 5° BTC for a 69 kW engine. Refer to steps 4 to 12. When the timing has been set, remove the 10 mm shim.

(1) Bolt
Remove bolt (1) that is located at the center of the rear face of the fuel injection pump. Install the 192-3331 Timing Gauge with the 6V-3075 Dial Indicator with approximately 10 mm (0.39 inch) of preload in order to measure cam lift. Refer to Illustration 4.

Typical example (2) Timing tools
Rotate the crankshaft in the opposite direction of the engine rotation. Rotate the crankshaft until the reading on the dial indicator stabilizes at the bottom of the lift of the plunger in the pump. Set the dial indicator to zero.Note: The needle of the dial indicator will stop moving when the bottom of the lift of the plunger has been reached.
Illustration 5 g01011407
Rotate the crankshaft in the normal direction of the engine until the mark for the correct degree on the crankshaft pulley is aligned with the pointer on the timing case.
Record the reading on the dial indicator. The reading should be 0.5 mm (0.0197 inch).

Positioning the fuel injection pump
If the reading on the dial indicator is not within the specification, then the pump needs to be rotated. To adjust the timing of the fuel injection pump, loosen the flange nuts and move the pump in order to achieve a reading of 0.5 mm (0.0197 inch).
With the cam lift at 0.5 mm (0.0197 inch), secure the pump in position.
Remove timing tools (2) from the fuel injection pump.
Before installing bolt (1) , replace the copper gasket that is on the bolt with a new gasket. Install bolt (1)
