The Static Switch Cabinet contains the static switches that are needed to switch the system between the bypass mode and line operating modes. The Static Switch cabinet includes the Zig-Zag transformer and several control circuit boards. The Static Switch Cabinet also contains a line inductor that allows voltage differentials between the System Input and System Output. Additionally, the line inductor is used for voltage regulation and harmonics correction.Cabinet Description
The Static Switch Cabinet is a 42-inch wide cabinet that is located between the following cabinets: the Input/Output Cabinet and the Controls Cabinet.The upper part of the cabinet is occupied by six static switches. There is an upper bank of three static switches and a lower bank of three static switches. The upper bank is used to put the system into bypass mode and the lower bank is used to put the system into online mode. There is one switch for each phase of the 3-phase input current.The middle portion of the cabinet contains the fan plenum where three fans provide cooling.The lower portion of the cabinet contains the electrical conversion hardware for the cabinet. This portion contains the following components: line inverter, transformers, Zig-Zag and other associated hardware.The panel on the left side of the system contains the following components: fan fuses, system fuses, the Zig-Zag transformer and circuit breaker components.The Zig-Zag components are used to maintain the ground reference of the UPS 3-phase output when the system is in discharge mode and disconnected from the utility input.The panel on the right side of the cabinet contains three boards that control and monitor the static switches and fans in the system.Power Flow
Power flows into the cabinet at the top from the Input/Output Cabinet on the left side of the cabinet. Here the power is split and flows into either the Bypass Static Switch or the Line Static Switch, depending on which mode is currently active.In Bypass mode the Bypass Static Switch is closed and the Line Static Switch is opened. Power flows into the Bypass Static Switch where the switch is connected back to the output side of the Input/Output Cabinet. Power exits the switch and is routed to the bottom bus bars in the cabinet. During Bypass mode, the K3 and K4 contactors are opened so that power cannot enter the cabinets to the right of the Static Switch Cabinet. The K3 and K4 contactors are located in the Controls Cabinet.In the On-line mode the Line Static Switch is closed and the Bypass Static Switch is opened. Power flows into the Line Static Switch, exits the switch and is routed to the inputs of the line inductor in the back of the cabinet. The power flows out of the line inductor and connects to the bus bars at the bottom of the cabinet.
