Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Park the machine on a level surface. Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.

Using a strap-type filter wrench, remove filter housing (1).

Remove and discard filter element (2) from filter housing (1).
Clean filter housing (1), and install a new seal.
Lubricate the seal with clean hydraulic oil.
Install a new filter element (2) and filter housing (1).
Start the engine. Apply the service brakes, and disengage the parking brake.
Move the transmission control to the FORWARD position and to the REVERSE position to circulate the transmission oil.
Inspect the filter for leaks.
Move the transmission control to the NEUTRAL position and engage the parking brake.
