Remove and Install Rocker Arm and Shaft Assemblies
Start By:a. remove the valve cover(s)
Valve rocker arms (1) and unit injector rocker arms (4) can move on shaft (3) after bolts (2) have been removed. Shaft (3) should be kept level when removed from the cylinder head. To avoid possible personal injury, keep fingers clear of valve rocker arms (1) and unit injector rocker arms (4) when lifting the assembly from the cylinder head.
1. Remove four bolts (2).2. Remove shaft (3), valve rocker arms (1) and unit injector rocker arms (4) as a unit.3. Repeat Step 1 and Step 2 for the remaining rocker shaft assemblies.4. Install the rocker shaft assembly in the reverse order of removal.5. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting Manual for the proper procedures to adjust valve rocker arms (1) and unit injector rocker arms (4).End By:a. install the valve cover(s)Disassemble and Assemble Rocker Arm and Shaft Assemblies
Start By:a. remove the rocker arm and shaft assembly 1. Slide valve rocker arms (1) and unit injector rocker arms (2) from shaft (3). Check the condition of all parts. Replace any worn or damaged components with new parts.
Do not reuse the O-ring seals on any rocker arm adjuster if the button has been removed from the adjuster screw.
2. Remove button (4) from adjuster screw (5) in valve rocker arm (1).3. Remove button (6) from adjuster screw (7) in unit injector rocker arm (2).4. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for the remaining rocker arm assemblies.5. Assemble the rocker arms and shaft as follows:6. Install the O-ring seal in buttons (4).7. Install the O-ring seals on buttons (6).8. To install the O-rings and buttons on the valve rocker arms, do the following:a. Support valve rocker arm (1) in a vise having soft jaws.b. Position the O-ring seal and button (4) on the round end of adjuster screw (5).c. Use a soft hammer to seat button (4) onto adjuster screw (5).9. To install the O-rings and buttons on the unit injector rocker arms, do the following:a. Support valve rocker arm (2) in a vise having soft jaws.b. Position the O-ring seal and button (6) in the end of adjuster screw (7).c. Use a soft hammer to seat button (6) into adjuster screw (7).10. Repeat Steps 8 and 9 for the remaining rocker arms (1) and (2).11. Install the assembled rocker arms onto shafts (3) in their original positions.End By:a. install the rocker arm shafts.
