Information:
4. Remove the drain plug from the transmission housing (1) and transmission extension housing (2) and drain the oil. Clean and install drain plugs.Wash Magnetic Screens (on new machines and after repair or when failure is suspected)
1. Remove the bolts from cover. Remove the wave washers.
Do not drop or rap magnets against hard objects. Magnets can break.
3. Remove screen (1), the magnet and the tube assembly. Remove magnet (2) from tube assembly.4. Wash the magnet, screen and tube assembly in clean, nonflammable solvent. Clean the magnets with a clean cloth, stiff brush or pressure air.5. Install the clean magnet and tube assembly, screen and wave washers. Inspect the seal in the housing. Replace it if damaged. Install the covers.Change the transmission charge and lubrication filters. See topic "Transmission Charge and Lubrication Filters," in the "Every 500 Service Hours or 3 Months" section for procedures.Clean Filler Cap and Screen
1. Remove the transmission tank filler cap. Remove the transmission filler screen retaining ring.2. Remove the screen. Wash the cap and filler screen in clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow them to dry. Inspect the cap seal. Use a new seal if the used one is damaged. Install the filler screen and the retaining ring.Fill Transmission Tank
1. Overfill the transmission tank to bottom of fill tube.2. Start the engine and run it at LOW IDLE. Check for leaks. 3. Add oil to get the oil level to the FULL mark in the sight gauge, with cold oil and engine idling. Install the filler cap.Steering Accumulators
Check Steering Response
Check the steering system hydraulic oil level. Maintain the oil to the FULL mark in upper sight gauge (1).After engine startup, recheck the oil level. If the oil level registers FULL at lower gauge (2), then the accumulators are properly charged. If it registers below the ADD mark in the lower sight gauge (2), it is incorrectly precharged. See your Caterpillar dealer for charging procedures. To measure precharge pressure and add nitrogen if necessary, consult your Caterpillar dealer. There are three steering accumulators to check. One on the left side of the machine and two on the right side.Stop the engine with the ground level shut down. This permits the accumulator to stay charged. Turn the wheel right and left. The accumulator charge should permit steering.Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS)
Torque the Mounting Bolts
There are 20 cab mounting bolts. The correct torque is 1904 68 N m (1400 50 lb ft).Make a visual inspection of the ROPS. If cracks are found in the welds or the structure, or if there are damaged or broken components, contact your Caterpillar dealer for any necessary repairs.Front and Rear Service Brakes
Check for Wear and System Leakage
Inspect the brakes for wear and system leakage. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for service or instructions.Front Wheel Bearings
Change Oil and Clean Breathers
The front wheel bearing oil change period can be extended to 4000 hours or no change, if monitored with S O S (Scheduled Oil Sampling) Program.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow
