Fasten the seat belt.
Ensure that the parking brake is engaged.
Ensure that the directional switch is in the NEUTRAL position.
Ensure that the implement levers are in the center position. The implements will not work if the machine is started with the levers in the detent position. Note: Do not touch the levers while you start the engine.
Before the engine is started, check for the presence of bystanders or maintenance personnel. Ensure that all personnel are clear of the machine. Briefly sound the forward horn before you start the engine.
Turn the engine start switch to the ON position. Pause for three seconds so that the secondary steering (if equipped) can test. Note: In applications for cold weather, pause until the indicator lamp for the Starting Aid turns off. When the engine start switch is in the ON position, this indicates the activation of the glow plugs or ether. Once the indicator light for the Starting Aid goes off you may start the engine.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Alert Indicators" for the correct alert.
Turn the engine start switch key to the START position. Release the engine start switch key after the engine starts. Note: When the engine start switch key is in the START position the indicator light for the Starting Aid may appear. This means that either glow plugs or ether (if equipped) is being activated. The selection of the type of Starting Aid during START is based on temperature and the altitude.Note: To protect the engine from wear, the Electronic Control System will keep engine RPM at idle until proper engine oil pressure is achieved. The engine will not accelerate before proper engine oil pressure is achieved. Hydraulic control will be delayed until engine oil pressure and hydraulic oil pressure is at appropriate levels.
