Assembly Procedure
Valve Lifters
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Install new guide spring (2) for the valve lifter.

Place valve lifter (1) in a container of clean engine oil prior to installation.
Install valve lifter (1) in the cylinder head. Note: For more information, see Specifications, "Valve Rocker Arms, Lifters, and Bridges".Inlet and Exhaust Valve Guides

Coat the outside of the valve guides with clean engine oil prior to installation.
Use Tool (A) to install the valve guides. The valve guide must extend 26 0.50 mm (1.0236 0.0197 inch) above the surface of the cylinder head. Inlet and Exhaust Valve Seat Inserts

Cool the valve seat inserts (1). Install valve seat inserts with Tool (A). Valve Train Bridge Dowels

Use Tool (A) with a hammer to install bridge dowels (1). The bridge dowels must extend 66.5 0.5 mm (2.62 0.02 inch) above the surface of the cylinder head. Inlet and Exhaust Valves

Coat valves (4) with clean engine oil. Install the valves into the cylinder head.
Install seal (2), the inner spring, outer spring (1), and valve rotator (3) over the valve stem and the valve guide.

Compress the valve spring with Tool (A) and install retainer lock (6).
If the valve locks are not positioned correctly, the locks can be expelled when the spring pressure is released.To help prevent personal injury, stay away from the front of the valve retainer and springs. Ensure that the valve locks are positioned correctly.
Release the pressure on Tool (A). Remove Tool (A). Lightly tap the top of the valve with a hammer. This will ensure that the retainer locks are in the proper position.
Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for the remaining valves. End By:
Install the cylinder head.
