Place "CB1" in the OFF position in order to remove the power.
Disconnect the speed sensor from terminals 4 and 5 of the tachometer.
Connect the positive lead of the signal generator to terminal 4 of the tachometer and to terminal 5 of the tachometer.
Place "CB1" in the ON position.
Measure the voltage at terminal +4 of the tachometer with respect to terminal −5 of the tachometer. The voltage should be greater than 3.5 volts.
Check the following components and refer to Table 1.

Engine Oil Step Relay
Engine Overspeed RelaySet the 163-0096 Diagnostic and Calibration Tool to 10 Hz below the setpoint that is desired. The output for that setting should remain OFF. Change the settings to 10 Hz above the setpoint that is desired. The output terminal of the tachometer should have 24 VDC with respect to terminal 2. The output of the relay for that setting should turn on.
