Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Place the gasket and the O-ring seals in position on the rear of the cylinder block.
Trim the gasket that is located between the rear housing and the cylinder block. Trim this gasket even with the bottom of the cylinder block.
Apply Tooling (B) to the engine oil pan and replace the section of the gasket for the engine oil pan. Apply Tooling (C) to the top of the section of the new gasket. Apply Tooling (C) to the intersection of the cylinder block, engine oil pan, and rear housing. Tooling (C) will assist with installation of the rear housing.

Typical example
Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to rear housing (2). The weight of rear housing (2) is approximately 455 kg (1000 lb).
Place rear housing (2) in position on the cylinder block. Install the following bolts: (1), (3) and (4) .
Place the support brackets for the turbochargers in position on the rear housing. Install the bolts that hold the support brackets in place.
Tighten bolts (1), (3), and (4) to the correct torque. Refer to Specifications, "Housing (Rear)" for the correct tightening sequence.
Install the bolts that hold the engine oil pan to the rear housing.End By:
Install the crankshaft rear seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal - Install".
Install the camshaft drive gears. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft Drive Gear - Install".
Install the manual barring group. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Manual Barring Group - Install".
Install the starting motors. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Starting Motor - Install" or Disassembly and Assembly, "Electric Starting Motor - Remove and Install".
Install the accessory drive, if necessary. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Accessory Drive - Install".
Install the turbochargers. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Install".
