This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3104" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3104" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the January 6, 1998 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Affected Product.

The line relief valves need to be reset or replaced on certain 990 and 994 Wheel Loaders. The 1424281 line relief valves for the head end of the lift cylinders were set too high from the factory. The valve pressure settings must be lowered to provide proper protection for the hydraulic and mechanical system of the machines.

Rework Procedure
1. Remove the 1424281 Relief Valve from the head end lift in the control valve. (This is shown as a 1115823 or 9T0122 Relief Valve in some parts books)2. Remove all shims from the relief valve. See View A.3. Install two of the thin 0.18 mm (.007 in) 5J6153 Shims and two thin 0.13 mm (.005 in) 4T6073 Shims against the valve body. See Items 2 and 3 on View B.4. Install one thick 1.22 mm (0.48 in) 6J8696 Shim next to the spring. See Item 1 on View B.5. Reassemble the relief valve and install it in the control valve group. Use one of the four thick shims and one each of the thin shims removed from the valve in previous step.
6. Turn in the main relief valve on one pump only to get the relief valve pressure in lift at low idle above the line relief setting. (Use only one pump to minimize flow through the line relief. Check valves in the system will prevent the other pump main relief from reacting.)7. Determine the line relief pressure. If below 38000 kPa (5500 psi), add shims to raise the pressure. if slightly above 38000 kPa (5500 psi), no adjustment
