KIT-GEAR 1G7502 - Caterpillar

Problem
The seals in the stick and bucket cylinders on certain 245B Hydraulic Excavators may have unsatisfactory service life. The affected cylinders can be disassembled and all seals replaced. The head bolts and piston nuts have new torque specifications as listed in September 10, 1990 Service Magazine. The bayonet type snubber in the 4T5883 Cylinder may either come out of the rod or break off. This rod type snubber should be pulled out or cut off to prevent future failures.

Remove and disassemble the 9T1388 Stick Cylinder Groups, and the 4T5883, 9J9398, and 1U1646 Bucket Cylinder Groups on each of the Affected Product. Remove or cut off the round bayonet (1V4727 Pin) that is pressed into the end of the 4T8016 Rod Assembly in the 4Y5883 Bucket Cylinder Group on those machines only. Replace the parts listed for the appropriate cylinder groups. Tighten all head bolts and piston nuts to the specifications given in Service Magazine, September 10, 1990, Pages 6 and 7. Install reworked cylinders on the Affected Product.
