TractorsReports show that the brake linkage on D4E Tractors will normally need adjustment several times before the first 250 hours of machine operation. The brake lining on this tractor is made of a woven asbestos material. Compression of this material is normal during early service life. To make sure you have enough brake force, it will be necessary to adjust the brakes sooner than the 250 hours shown in the Lubrication and Maintenance Guide for D4E Tractors.
Normally the serviceman will only need to adjust the adjuster nut to keep the pedal "free travel" near 76 mm (3.0"). If the brakes do not operate normally, it may be necessary to make adjustments to the complete brake linkage as shown in the Service Manual.
