(1) Assemble spring (1) to the adapter. Slide the tip onto the adapter. Install pin (2) from the opposite side of the counterbore. A spring and pin are also used to install the tip on a bottom strap adapter.Installation Of Cutting Edge (Slanted Floor)
To install a cutting edge on a bucket with a slanted floor (at an angle), it is necessary to fabricate four templates (1) to use as a guide to put the cutting edge in position at the correct angle. See the following chart for each specific machine. (1) With an Arcair torch or similar tool, remove the existing corners and cutting edge. Grind the area smooth. Fit the new cutting edge to the bucket with the four templates (1) fabricated earlier, tack welded to the bucket and cutting edge. Make sure the cutting edge is at the center of the bucket. Tack weld angle iron braces as shown to the bucket and cutting edge. Tack weld the cutting edge in position. Do not weld the cutting edge until the corner tooth adapters are put into position; see page 12. All final welding can be done at one time. (2) When welding the cutting edge, heat the cutting edge and corners for the 980B, 980C, 988B, 992B and 992C buckets to 400°F (204°C). No primary heat is needed on the smaller machines. With E7018 electrodes, weld the top of the cutting edge, area (G), to the bucket. Turn the bucket over and weld the bottom, area (F). Weld from the center of the bucket out, in the sequence shown above; this will prevent distortion of the bucket and cutting edge. Clean all welds.Corner Tooth Adapter Chart (*FM)
Installation Of Corner Tooth Adapter (*FM) And Weld Specifications
(1) After the cutting edge is put into position, use the corner and adapter together as a guide to trim (cut) the side of the bucket for a correct fit of the corner and tooth adapter. See the procedure given on pages 4 and 5 for the correct pre-heating and weld information.
