Use the "ARD Ignition Transformer Primary Status" override on the electronic service tool to turn on the ARD ignition system.
Look for flashes inside the spark indicator.
Turn off the ARD ignition system by disabling the override.Expected Result:There were flashes inside the spark indicator.Results:
There were flashes inside the spark indicator. The ignition coil is OK. There is a fault with the ignition wire or the spark plug. - Proceed to Test Step 13.
There are no flashes inside the spark indicator. - Repair: Replace the ignition coil. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Ignition Coil - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure. Proceed to Test Step 15.Test Step 13. Test the Ignition Wire

Disconnect the adaptor lead (12) from the ignition coil and spark indicator (13) .
Connect the ignition wire between the ignition coil and spark indicator (13) .
Make sure that the adaptor lead (15) is securely grounded to the engine.
The ignition system may cause an electrical shock hazard, which may cause personal injury or death. Avoid contacting the ignition system components and the ignition system wiring during operation.

Remove the spark plug from the ARD combustion head.
Clean the ground probe inside the ARD combustion head by running a 305-2389 Plug Bore Brush through the hole in the ARD combustion head. Run the brush through the hole several times.
Inspect the spark plug. Look for the following defects:Carbon Deposits - Use a nonmetallic cleaning pad to clean the spark plug.Bent Probe - Check the probe for damage.Damaged Insulator - Check the insulator for damage.Note: The spark plug may be damaged if the spark plug is dropped. Do not install a spark plug that has been dropped.
Inspect ground wire (10). Make sure that the wire is not damaged or broken. Make sure that there is no corrosion on ground point (11) on the ARD combustion head.Expected Result:The components are clean and the spark plug is not damaged.Results:
The components are clean and the spark plug is not damaged. - Proceed to Test Step 15.
The spark plug is damaged. - Repair: Install a replacement spark plug. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "ARD Spark Plug - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure. Proceed to Test Step 15.Test Step 15. Use the Electronic Service Tool to
