Dealer Service Tools has released the Caterpillar Idler Welder. The shop station welds idlers and track rollers for D3 through D11 Track-type Tractors and 943 through 973 Track-type Loaders. The unit also can handle railroad rims up to 1118 mm (44 inch) in diameter, 508 mm (20 inch) wide and weighing up to 908 kg (2000 lb).Two multi-process welders, rated at 650 amps, and a pair of automatic wire feeders lay precise beads up to 330 cm (130 inch) per minute. Optional, 1000 amp welders are available for dealers that routinely weld idlers for D11 Track-type Tractors. The optional welder can achieve beads up to 432 cm (170 inch) per minute. Idlers for machines that are smaller than D11 Track-type Tractors cannot use the full capacity of the 1000 amp welder. For this reason, Caterpillar recommends the 650 amp welder for most applications.Features and Benefits
The yoke features a machine screw clamping system that is driven by an air regulated motor. This clamping system promotes fast set up times.
Cone mounts provide positive centering on axis.
A motorized drive system with a gearbox rotates the components during the welding process. The design requires fewer adjustments than chain drive systems or belt drive systems.
The yoke tilts up to 45 ° for welding the flanges. The tilt function is actuated by a large, ball screw drive.
The grounding mechanism uses caliper mounted brushes, a solid copper disc and four heavy duty cables for consistent and reliable grounding.
The unit's twin weld heads function independently or function simultaneously. Each weld head is independently driven by one vertical ball screw and one horizontal ball screw.
The flux system catches the flux and slag, separates the flux and returns the flux back to the main hopper. Three flux delivery options are available. Your choice can be based on your shop's production requirements and space limitations.
The operator control panel features a separate control for each automatic wire feeder.
A control panel for the yoke and rotation functions provides nearly total operator control from a single location. At this panel, the operator controls all yoke rotation, work piece rotation, step over, welding starts, welding stops, and emergency stops.
