Fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist to cylinder head (20) .
Install cylinder head (20) in position on the cylinder block.

Install head bolts (11) except the head bolts for the rocker shaft. Also, do not torque the bolts at this time.Note: Place a punch mark on top of the head bolt. Replace the head bolts if the head bolts have more than two punch marks on top of the bolt.

Install valve caps (14) on the end of each valve stem.
Install eight pushrods (13) in the cylinder head.Note: Ensure that the pushrods are installed in the original location. Also, ensure that the pushrods are seated in the valve lifters correctly.

Place the rocker shaft in position on the cylinder head.
Install the five head bolts (11) through the rocker shaft.
Tighten cylinder head bolts (11) in the proper torque sequence. Refer to Illustration 3.Reference: For further information concerning the cylinder head bolt torque, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR4010, "Cylinder Head and Valve Mechanism".
Adjust the inlet valve lash and the exhaust valve lash to 0.4 mm (0.016 inch).Reference: Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR4010, "Inspecting and Adjusting Valve Clearances" for more information on setting the valve lash.
After the engine valve lash adjustment, tighten the locknut for the adjustment screws (12) .
Remove Tooling (A) .

Install the spacer and bolt (19) for the oil drain line.

Connect electrical harness (18). Install nut (17) .

Squeeze clamp (15) and connect fuel drain line (16) to the fuel injector.Note: O-rings, gaskets, and seals should always be replaced. A used O-ring may not have the same sealing properties as a new O-ring.

Install O-ring seal (9) .
Remove bolt (10). Install the clip for the fuel drain line. Reinstall bolt (10) .

Install gasket (8) to water temperature regulator housing (6) .

Install water temperature regulator housing (6) onto the engine block.
Install four mount bolts (7) for the water temperature regulator housing (6) .

Connect wire (5) to the water temperature sender.

Install heater hose (4). Tighten hose clamp (2) .
Connect two wires (3) to the water temperature sensor.
Install clip (1) and the bolt.End By:
Install the water temperature regulator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water temperature regulator - Remove and Install".
Install the air inlet manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Inlet Manifold - Install".
Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Manifold - Remove and Install".
