The stationary section consists of the travel motor and the hydraulic valve. The rotary section consists of a simple planetary gear train.The final drive of the piston motor (travel) consists of a two-stage simple planetary gear train. The high output speed of the motor is reduced. This is done in order to produce high torque. In high speed, the motor produces a torque of 1610 N m (1190 lb ft) at a pressure of 20600 kPa (2990 psi). In low speed, the motor produces a torque of 2805 N m (2070 lb ft) at a pressure of 20600 kPa (2990 psi). The displacement of the piston motor in high speed is 13.4 cc (0.82 in3). The displacement of the piston motor in low speed is 23.6 cc/rev (1.44 in3/rev). The gear ratio of the final drive is 1 : 41.923.The piston motors (travel) are of axial piston design. The piston motors convert hydraulic energy into rotating action. The oil enters the motor through ports (A) in the valve plate (4). The oil enters the port in the cylinders of the barrel (3) that are aligned with ports (A). The oil pushes the pistons (2). The pushing force is converted into rotation by the swashplate (5). The shaft is splined to the barrel (3). The rotation of the barrel turns the shaft (1). The oil flows out of the motor through ports (B). For the reverse rotation, the oil enters through ports (B) and the oil exits through ports (A).

In illustration 2, the majority of the swashplate is seated against the body of the piston motor (travel). In this position, the motor displacement is large. This is the first speed position. By pressing the button on the floor in the cab, the second speed is activated. This is shown in illustration 3. The swashplate is positioned so that the displacement is small. This results in higher speed. The swashplate is moved by the control piston (12). When the switch on the floor is depressed, hydraulic oil flows through a passage and hydraulic oil pressure (11) begins to build up in control chamber (10). The hydraulic pressure forces control piston (12) to decrease the angle of swashplate (5).
