Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Place the hub on a flat surface in order to install bearing cup (10). Lower the temperature of roller bearing cup (10) and install the roller bearing cup on hub (11) .
Place the hub on a flat surface in order to install bearing cup (16) .
Lower the temperature of bearing cup (16) and install the roller bearing cup on hub (11) .
Install the Duo-cone seals. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Duo-Cone Conventional Seals - Install" for the machine that is being serviced. Use Tooling (B) to install duo-cone seals (12) in hub (11) and spindle (4) .Note: The rubber seals and all the surfaces that make contact with seals must be clean and dry. After you install the seals, put clean oil on the contact surfaces of the metal seals.
Install three guide bolts that are 7/8 inch - 9 NC in the axle.
Align the hole pattern on shims (5) with the hole pattern on axle (18). Put the shims in position on the axle. Install spindle (4) with bolts (6). Remove the guide bolts and install the remaining bolts (6) .
Install the following components on spindle (4) : roller bearing cone (17), hub (11), bearing cone (15), tongue washer (14), lockwasher (8) and locknut (7) .Note: Use two people to install the hub on the spindle. The weight of hub (11) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).Note: Do not tighten locknut (7) at this time.
Use the following steps to achieve the correct bearing adjustment:
Be sure that roller bearing cone (10) slides easily on the spindle and that locknut (7) rotates freely on the spindle threads.
Oscillate the hub back and forth at an angle of 30 degrees while you use Tooling (A) to tighten locknut (7). Tighten locknut (7) to a torque of 542 41 N m (400 30 lb ft).
Loosen locknut (7) to a torque of 67 41 N m (50 30 lb ft).
Oscillate the hub back and forth at an angle of 30 degrees while you use Tooling (A) to tighten locknut (7). Tighten locknut (7) to a torque of 217 24 N m (160 18 lb ft).
If a tang on lockwasher (8) lines up with a slot in locknut (7), bend the tang so the tang engages with the slot. This will lock the bearing adjustment in place. If a tang and a slot do not line up,
