Removal Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system, as follows:
Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location.
Move the machine away from working machines and personnel. Lower the hitch and/or implements to the ground.
Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all personnel away from the machine.
Engage the parking brake.
Stop the engine.
Move the hydraulic control levers to all positions.
Carefully loosen the filler cap on the hydraulic oil tank. This will release the pressure in the tank.
Move the steering wheel to the right and move the steering wheel to the left in order to release the pressure in the steering hydraulic system.
Depress the brake pedal 20 times. This will release the hydraulic pressure that is stored in the brake accumulator.
Purge all hydraulic pressure before you start any maintenance.
Tighten the filler cap on the hydraulic tank. The pressure in the system has now been released, and lines or components can be serviced.
The pressure in the system has now been released. The lines and the components can be removed.
Drain all the fluids into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
