Schematic of the feedback circuit for the clutch solenoids
The possible causes are listed below:
One or more of the solenoids in the circuit has failed.
There is an open in the circuit.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.Note: The following procedure can create numerous related diagnostic codes. When all harnesses are reconnected, the related diagnostic codes will be shown as being not active. Clear all related diagnostic codes after this procedure is completed.Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code for the return is active. Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID FOR AN OPEN.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the J1 machine harness connector from the ECM.
Disconnect the "Transmission Clutch Solenoid 2" from the wiring harness.
Measure the resistance between pin 1 and pin 2 of the solenoid.
Record the value of the resistance measurement.
Repeat the process for the "Transmission Clutch Solenoid 4". Expected Result:The resistance should be less than 20 ohms for both of the solenoids in the circuit. Results:
YES - The resistance is less than 20 ohms for both of the solenoids that are in the circuit. The solenoids are correct. Proceed to test step 2.
NO - The resistance measurement is NOT correct. The resistance is higher than 20 ohms for one or more of the solenoids in the circuit.Repair: Replace the faulty solenoid(s). Reconnect the remaining solenoid(s). Reconnect the J1 connector. Operate the machine. Observe if the diagnostic code occurs again.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE SOLENOIDS
Insert a jumper wire in place of each of the solenoids that were removed from the wiring harness during the earlier measurements.
At the J1 connector for the Transmission ECM, measure the resistance at pin locationJ1-60 and pin location J1-58. The resistance should measure less than 5 ohms.
At the J1 connector for the Transmission ECM, measure the resistance at pin locationJ1-60 and pin location J1-61. The resistance should measure less than 5 ohms. Expected Result:Each of the resistance measurements are less than 5 ohms. Results:
YES - The resistance is less than 5 ohms for all of the connections that are in the circuit. The wiring harness is correct. Proceed to test step 3.
NO - The resistance measurement is NOT correct. One of the measurements of the resistance is higher than 5 ohms.Repair: Replace the wiring harness or repair the wiring harness. After the wiring harness has been replaced reconnect the J1 connector. Operate the machine. Observe if the diagnostic code occurs again.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS.
Inspect the contacts and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Clear all inactive diagnostic codes.
Operate the machine.
Stop the machine and place the parking brake switch in the ON position.
Check if the diagnostic code for the solenoid is active. Expected Result:The diagnostic code is NO longer active. Results:
YES - The diagnostic code is NO longer active. The diagnostic code does not exist
