The purpose of the "Advisor" is to display pertinent machine information to the operator and/or service personnel, while acting as a monitoring system for the machine. This information includes but is not limited to the parameters of the machine, the system configuration of the machine, and details of the diagnostic events of the machine. The "Advisor" obtains this information over the Cat data link.This diagnostic code is associated with the "Advisor" module. This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM of the "Advisor" is not sending the necessary parameters to the Transmission ECM at the proper rate. The update rate for parameters that are generated by the ECM for the "Advisor" is not correct. The communication failure may be due to disconnected connectors or a faulty wiring harness.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The ECM for the "Advisor" has software that is incorrect.
The Transmission ECM has software that is incorrect.
Incompatible software may be installed.
The fuse for the ECM for the "Advisor" may have failed.System Response:The machine response is listed:
Some implement functions may not work properly.Test Step 1. CHECK THE ECM FOR THE MESSENGER AND THE CHASSIS ECM FOR PROPER SOFTWARE VERSIONS.
Use Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) in order to verify that the versions of software are compatible. Expected Result:The proper versions of software are installed on the ECM for the "Advisor" and the Transmission ECM.Results:
YES - The versions of software are compatible. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The proper software is not installed.Repair: Flash the proper software to the appropriate ECM. Cycle the keyswitch in order to initialize the new software. Ensure that the diagnostic code is no longer active. STOPTest Step 2. RECHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC CODES.
Ensure that the CID 2448 FMI 14 diagnostic code is active. Expected Result:The diagnostic code is inactive. The diagnostic code indicator is inactive. Results:
YES - The diagnostic code indicator and the diagnostic code are inactive.Repair: Clear the diagnostic code.STOP
NO - The diagnostic code is active.Repair: Ensure that the proper software is installed before replacing the ECM. If the software is correct, replace the Transmission ECM. It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. Prior to replacing an ECM, always contact your dealership for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace". If the Transmission ECM was just replaced , install a new ECM for the "Advisor". It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM.
