8S-8048 Saddle     1    Note: Make sure that the pin bores in the stick and in the boom are clean and free of dirt prior to the installation of the stick.
Apply a thin coat of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on the bearings and on the seals in the stick.

Fasten an appropriate lifting device to the stick. Position the stick on the boom. The weight of the stick, the bucket control linkage and the bucket cylinder is approximately 525 kg (1160 lb).
Align the pin bore in the stick with the pin bores in the boom. Apply a thin coat of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on pin assembly (8). Temporarily install pin assembly (8). Do not remove the lifting device at this time.

(X) Support Pin (Y) Boom (Z) Stick
Slide the stick to one side until the stick makes contact with the boom. Measure the total clearance between the stick and the boom. The total clearance of measurement (a) plus measurement (b) must not be more than 0.8 mm (.03 inch). If the total clearance is less than 0.8 mm (.03 inch), the addition of shims between the stick and the boom will not be required. If the total clearance is more than 0.8 mm (.03 inch), the addition of shims between the stick and the boom will be required.
If shims are required, remove pin assembly (8). Install the shims that are required between the stick and the boom. Install the shims on the side opposite of retaining bolt (7). Install pin assembly (8) .
Install retaining bolt (7). Tighten the retaining bolt to a torque of 325 40 N m (240 30 lb ft).
Remove the lifting device from the stick.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Replace the O-ring seals in the ends of hose assemblies (6) with new O-ring seals.
Connect two hose assemblies (6) .

Remove the device that was used to keep the rod end of the stick cylinder from extending. Fasten an appropriate lifting device to the rod end of the stick cylinder. Lift the rod end of the stick cylinder until the pin bore is aligned with the pin bores in the stick.
Apply a thin coat of 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on pin assembly (4). Install pin assembly (4). Install the washer and retaining bolt (3). Tighten the retaining bolt to a torque of 100 20 N m (75
