Remove the track brakes. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track Brakes - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Put two bars (1) across the plate, as shown. Bars (1) are flat pieces of steel approximately 16.5 cm × 31.8 mm × 6.4 mm (6 1/2 inch × 1 1/4 inch × 1/4 inch). Put ring (2) over the bars, as shown. Install two bolts (3) through ring (2) and the housing. Install the washers and the nuts on the bolts. Bolts (3) are 3/8" - 16 NC x 5 inch. Tighten bolts (3) evenly in order to put the springs in the track brake in compression. Use a soft hammer in order to push piston (4) through the plate so ring (5) can be removed. Use Tool (A) in order to remove ring (5) from the piston.
Personal injury can result from parts under high spring pressure.Spring force can cause parts to come off suddenly. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for disassembly instructions before removing any parts.
Loosen bolts (3) evenly in order to release the tension in the springs in the track brake.
Remove bolts (3), ring (2), bars (1) and plate (6) from the housing.

Remove two springs (7) from the housing.

Use a soft hammer in order to push piston (4) out of the housing.
Remove O-ring seal (8) from the parking brake housing.

Remove seal assemblies (9) and (10) from the piston.
