Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant from the engine into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".
Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the housing assembly.

Disconnect the harness assembly from coolant temperature sensor (2) . Remove coolant temperature sensor (2) .
Remove the bolts from manifold assembly (1) and remove housing assembly (1) .

Note: Housing assembly (1) is made up of regulator housing (3) and manifold housing (4) .
Separate regulator housing (3) from manifold housing (4) .
Remove press seal (5) and the O-ring seal from manifold housing (4) . Discard the seals and replace upon installation.

Remove water temperature regulators (6) .
Remove pipe (7) and O-ring seals (8) .

Use Tooling (A) to install lip seals (9) .

Apply Tooling (B) to O-ring seals (8) and the bore on regulator housing (3) .
Install O-ring seals (8) onto pipe (7) . Install pipe (7) .Note: Apply Tooling (B) to the end of pipe (7) that connects to the water pump assembly.
Install water temperature regulators (6) .
Insert press seal (5) and the O-ring seal onto manifold housing (4) .
Connect regulator housing (3) and manifold housing (4) .

Position housing assembly (1) and install the bolts.
Install coolant temperature sensor (2) . Tighten to 20 3 N m (177 27 lb in) and connect the harness assembly.
Apply Tooling (B) to the upper radiator house. Connect the upper radiator hose to the housing assembly.
Fill the cooling system to the correct coolant level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" in the Maintenance Section for more information.
